Spectacular Sunday

May 18, 2008 21:19

Today, amarisking and I went photo-shooting at the hill near my house. It is a Garry Oak ecosystem. We got some great shots, including some new ones of the Sunday Market Shawl. The scent of lilacs, and camas flowers was lovely on the warm summer breeze. It has been like summer here this past week!!

Lovely! I really like the contrast between the pretty shawl and her red hair. :-)

Oh I know! It looks fabulous! I really like the photos with Amaris in them. Her modelling the scarf is a completely different look than me modelling it. I like that it shows the versatility of the piece.
I wish I could get my hair to be that red! Alas, even if I could, I am sure that hue would look strange with my olive complexion. Oh well, I can admire the look on others. Jeff has a red beard, but blondy hair so sometimes I make him dye his hair red to match :-P

No, your hair looks really nice just as it is! Please don't change it, it's beautiful. :-)

Thanks! That bee photo was really a surprise shot, I had to hold the camera way out to get him, cause he kept flying from blossom to blossom.

So lost on the Market Shawl pattern anonymous May 21 2008, 13:13:30 UTC
Okay, I feel like a total idiot but from reading the pattern you do the first row with yarn overs and then you continue in stockinette - which is knit a row then purl a row. If you do that all the way until the end - I don't see how you will come out with the same look of a shawl that I see in your photo. You would not have the open airy look - and you would not have any yarn overs to drop on the last row. i know I'm missing something that is staring me in the face because no one else seemed to have a problem but I started and frogged this pattern 3 times last night before I just gave up. Help!

the thing is, it sounds like you were doing it right. The yarn overs will look like stockinette because you have been knitting/purling them all the way up the shawl. BUT when you get to the end of the shawl, you must drop the stitches that were made by the yarn overs. This causes a run in the fabric & the sts you drop fall out to the until you get back down to that original YO, then it stops. That gives the laddering effect.
Just go with the pattern & trust it :-)
