On a happier note...

I've been working on quick projects in between R2D2 hats to try to lessen the crazy-making. Here's what I've been up to in the past month and a half.

My manager gets cold easily, especially when she's in the back doing managerial stuff and not on the floor moving around. She saw the new Terminator (from the Sarah Connor Chronicles) wearing some fingerless mitts that went almost all the way up her arms and asked me how hard they would be to recreate. She didn't want the purple stripes though, just black. This is what I came up with: simple 1x1 ribbed tubes with a thumb gusset near one end. They're made with Lion Brand Wool-Ease in #153 Black.

After I gave the above pair to my manager, one of my coworkers asked me oh so subtly, "So... how long did it take you to make those?" "Do you want a pair?" "Maaaaybe..." Same yarn, virtually the same pattern but with a few extras stitches in each round and fewer rounds. My manager is very tall and very thin, while my coworker is kinda short and thin, but not quite as thin. Not surprisingly, they look very similar to the first.

Another coworker joked that he wanted a jester hat for skiing. He was a little surprised when I gave it to him a few days later. This is Lion Wool-Ease in #102 Ranch Red (hooray for stash-busting!) using Woolly Wormhead's pattern.

Since I was outfitting all the staff in knitted goodness, I asked another coworker what she might want. How about a sleeve to cover her forearm tattoo while at work? She had been using a few tennis wristbands lined up next to each other, but they weren't working so well. I pulled the Wool-Ease out of the stash again and whipped up a couple more tubes. I made two so she can where the other if the first gets dirty, or where them both for symmetry, or even cover up her other arm if she decides to get another tat.

Next, I finished a pair a socks that had been on the needles for almost a month, far longer than I usually take. The yarn is SWTC TOFUtsies in #733 Get Your Feet Wet, and the pattern is Pepperknit's Anastasia Socks. The modification I made was to use the magic cast-on with an increasing toe, instead of a short-row toe as per the pattern; I did work them toe-up with a short-row heel like the original though.

Then I decided I needed a new shrug with the spring weather coming. Enter the Ribbed Lace Bolero in Queensland Collection Llama Seta in #04 Icy Blue. This was such a quick and easy knit. I love it!

And now I've started on a new pair of socks. These are the Uptown Boot Socks from Interweave Press' "Favorite Socks", and I'm making them with Patons Kroy Socks in #54742 Blazing Blue. I'm working them toe-up with a short-row heel though, as is my custom.

Charity and I went to the DFW Fiber Fest on Saturday. I got a couple more futuresocks: MadelineTosh Sock in Jade and Lone Star Arts Fusions in Fetish. Lovely, no?

I still have two more R2D2 hats to make, but I'm sooooo close to finished. I can almost smell my knitting freedom.
