ADMIN: Banination

Sep 17, 2005 17:08

I just had to ban someone from this community for violating community guidelines.

From the userinfo:A snark in this community is not ever to be taken as an invitation to go and troll in comments on the post or the journal of the user snarked about.
I am serious.  Don't do it.  You will be banned.

I'm assuming it isn't me simply because I can still see this post. I'd just like to explain that while I do comment on many of the posts featured here, it's not because they're featured here, but because they're so dumb and I think it's ridiculous to just let those people keep posting without poking at them a bit just so they realize their actions are annoying to some.

Not you. I've seen some of your comments and they're fine.

The offender in this case went and commented anonymously on someone's personal LJ with a link to the post in this community about the user. As far as I can tell, their only motivation was to stir up some shit, a la the debacles with callmestupid and Headband Girl.

I figured out who it was via the magic of IP addresses. I will not ban someone from this community without clear evidence of wrongdoing.

Fair enough?

Defintely.
I just wanted to clarify things in case you weren't sure. In other words, I'd be a cranky jerk whether or not this community existed. :)

Bha! But you're not telling us who it was or providing links so we can point and laugh at the troll who managed to get banned (as long as we keep it withint the community of course). Surely that sort of trolling would be highly snark worthy :P It is a snark community after all.

On a serious note. You might want to think about unlocking this post - making it public.

I'm not going into the whole snark communities thread a fine line argument again. But having posts like this public, could send a good message to those that would happen to stumble across the community and don't really have much of a clue of what this snarking thing is about. Or rather what it is not about.

Oh and I've just realised that there's a word (or lots) missing in that sentance.
A snark in this community is not ever to be taken as an invitation to go and troll in comments on the post or the journal of user snarked about.
