The knitting blogs I really groove on are the ones where people are either doing really interesting things or have some sort of insane ability to knit a sweater a week.
The hysterical thing is that while I look for all the same things as you do in a knitting blog, my own fiber arts blog is everything I hate about them--I haven't finished a project in forever, I don't make myself sweaters (I'm hoping to rectify that over the next few months), and what projects I have done are small because I have expensive tastes in yarn. But I expect there to be lots of updates over the next few weeks since my spinning wheel is shipping today and I'm going to MDSW in a few weeks.
I think you just nailed why I don't have a knitting blog! I keep thinking I should make the hubby make me one of those cool looking pages with all the lists and galleries and links and stuff. Then I say, hey dummy, you don't even have enough stuff to fill one column of info! And, oh yeah all the blogs I read waaaay better than me - by a loooong shot. I can't imagine anyone who would be clamoring to see the first 13 inches of the back of my ribby cardi ;) especially when there are people like the Yarn Harlot making fabulous mittens or Cosmic Pluto and all her sweaters, etcetcetc.
One day I'll work up to it, but not now for sure!
(speaking of people way better than me - do YOU have a knitting blog?) =D
It'd be the ultimate in dull. How many months of whay-hay! another 4 rows of this lace thing completed today, with obligatiry pictures of something that's grown -- if it's been a productive day -- maybe a quater of an inch. Can you take before it's time for the nice wen with the invitation to the funny farm?
but you could do it in Swedish!! I'm sure teh internets have something to translate with :P I'm going to try and get started on my first lacy shawl this weekend. I printed out instructions for that weird circular cast-on and I'm determined to get the damn thing started!
I agree. I have a silly little LJ knitting blog, which I am sure is very boring, but it's for me, to track my progress. If I'd gotten into blogging to try and attract readers, I'd be very disappointed. My additions to your list:
Accept the fact that not everyone will like your blog. Even the most popular blogs (i.e. Wendyknits) have their naysayers. You can't please everyone.
Take it easy on the whinging, if you actually want an audience. I read knit blogs for enjoyment. It is not enjoyable to read post after post about how broke you are.
oh, and bloglines has decreased my annoyance with infrequent posters. since it checks for me, I don't have to click on a link and see the same old thing every day for a month.
