Bourbon Cake, etc

Dad's Favorite Bourbon Cake

Includes:
1 lb maraschino cherries, chopped
1/2 lb dates, chopped
1 pint bourbon
3/4 lb butter
6 eggs
1 lb sugar
1 c brown sugar
5 c flour
nutmeg, salt, baking powder
1 lb pecans, chopped

It is a heavy cake.

It's all Arts n' Crafts Time to get the batter in the pan. You have to grease the pan, line the sides with wax paper cut to size, and then grease the wax paper.

An all-day afair: It bakes at 275 for over 3 hours.

And it lived on the plate like this for a few days before I realized it was upside down.

And we haven't eaten a full 25% of it yet. I give generous slices of it to people whenever I see them. One coworker last year described it as looking like "an effed up meatloaf." Oh, but all that bourbon.

Communicate By Cable

On Ace (because it looks alot different on me)

Habitat

There is exactly one mis-crossed cable in it I didn't care to fix. And the hat is too deep for Ace's head, so she rolls it once. I may either frog a couple inches from the cast on edge and redo the ribbing, or just frog the ribbing (ribbit!) and redo it with ribbing that looks better rolled. Chances are, I'll just get over it and do neither.

Turn a Square

I'm becoming quite the Jarod Flood groupie. This is my third hat designed by him, Koolhaas and Habitat being the previous two. Lamb's Pride and Noro Silk Garden. Probably for my Uncle Pete to vaguely match the scarf I made him last Christmas.

Clover Mittens

I have no idea. The pattern just jumped out at me. I decided to use the superfine alpaca I got at Stitches West 2007 and after several arguments with myself over what the contrasting color should be, I settled on the Casbah sock yarn I got from Stitches West 2008. The contrast is a little low in places, but I really couldn't be happier with how it's turning out.
