Ooooooooooooo. I finally was able to read this y'know being awake and also coming off 7x18.

Awesome. So awesome. I can't even tell you how easy you make this look.

I think this was my favorite bit:

He felt, rather than saw her move as she pulled the needle out, and on impulse he grabbed her empty hand, trying to squeeze it, clinging to anything that might keep him anchored.

"Don't go. Please, just...talk to me," he said, the words spilling out before he could think about what he was saying.

He saw rather than felt her squeeze his hand, heard her voice murmuring to him as he started to hear other things, other voices from behind him. Harsher voices, speaking words he couldn't understand.

So much in so few words.

...And I just noticed that I used the same phrase reversed in that bit. We'll pretend that was intentional mirroring of the word choice, instead of me being repetitive and not noticing, 'k? :D

Thanks, anonymouse. :D Not sure when/if I'll be updating--depends if there's something compelling that gets me to write another scene before the end of the season. If not, I might wait until S7 ends.

I'm in love with the way you paint pictures in my head with your words. The image that sticks out in my head the most is that of Jack gripping Renee's hand, as the hallucinations threaten to overwhelm him. The anchoring imagery works well and embodies an important facet of their relationsip, not just in the tiny moment you've captured here. I love his hesitancy to admit that he needs someone to care for him, that it's a comfort and how he doesn't know (or perhaps he won't let himself think about) why that is. Why she's special and why he lets her.

Maybe he'll figure it out when he has to be the one doing the comforting. Should be interesting. I'll be interested to see how you continue you this, if you do.
