I really, really love Alec's attitude and dark humor, except the line "I’d deal with it on my own and he’d never know how much it hurt me" set of about fifty three red blinking warning lights... guh, you're good at drawing up the suspense. 'Cause you know, this can't go anywhere happy-fluffy.

Hooray for Alec's job search paragraph. I'm in the same spot he is, except, well, I'm not a hot gay stripper. *le sigh* Clerical hell for me. XD
