[Grandpa Simpson] I'll be cold in the ground before I recognise South Dakota[/GS]

As a native South Dakotan, I find it not surprising at all. Pheasant season is a GIGANTIC deal. Not just a passion of locals but also a huge huge part of our state's income. I grew up pheasant hunting with my dad, and my first dog was a bird dog. It really is an important symbol.

Personally, I'm just wondering why Mount Rushmore looks so freaky and melty.

The pheasant is the South Dakota state bird, anyway... so at this point if they want a bird they don't have much choice. I guess if it's a big part of the culture it makes sense...after all, I dare say most South Dakotans are also introduced species =D
