The Green Eyed Monster

1. The Monster Strikes

"Hasshi!" Yuto exclaimed.

Chinen's eyes ripped from the magazine he was reading and focused on the new arrival in the room that half of JUMP had gone to greet. He frowned as he saw him.

"Hasshi how are you?" Yuto asked and Hasshi had to laugh at the fact that he had been glomped by him.

"I'm good Yuto-kun," he said. "And I'm very glad to see you."

Hasshi gave Ryutaro, Yamada, Inoo and Daiki a hug, leaving Takaki last. Chinen watched as the two embraced each other. It was a hug that lasted much longer than the other hugs Hasshi had given and Chinen felt a strong desire to pull Hasshi away from Takaki and take his place. He let out a small growl and used the magazine to cover up his view of the two, forcing himself to concentrate on reading words.

From a few feet away where he was playing cards with Hikaru, Yabu watched the younger man and chuckled.

"What?" Hikaru asked.

"It looks like the green eyed monster's attacked Chinen," Yabu replied, inclining his head towards Chinen. Hikaru looked at Chinen and then at the crowd of people in which Hasshi and Takaki were at the center of and understood. He laughed.

"The poor guy," he said.

2. We All Scream For Ice Cream

Chinen cursed himself for having a craving for ice cream. It caused him to be coerced into an outing with JUMP and Hasshi later on that day.

"It'll be fun Chii," Yabu told him when the younger man flat out refused once he learned Hasshi was going.

"No."

"Come on!" Hikaru begged.

"No!"

"I'll buy you an ice cream cone," Yabu said.

"That's so wrong to bribe me, Yabu-kun," Chinen said, pouting.

"Double scoop."

"Done."

And now Chinen was at the mall with JUMP + Hasshi . . . and sulking.

"Hey there's the ice cream shop!" Yuto exclaimed. "Come on Yama-chan, we can split a milkshake!"

And Yamada was dragged to the line.

"Looks like I owe you an ice cream cone, Chii," Yabu said. "And Hika-chan, a milkshake doesn't sound like a bad idea."

Hikaru and Chinen grinned like five year old children as Yabu handed the latter a double scooped chocolate chip cookie dough cone and the former a vanilla milkshake with two straws. Chinen smiled as he watched the two split the milkshake. He wished he and Takaki could do things like that.

But all hope of that flew out of the window when he saw Takaki and Hasshi sharing a giant banana split. He suddenly felt like buying a pie and smashing it on Hasshi's head.

"It would take weeks to get the cream out of his hair," Chinen thought happily.

But this thought only comforted him for a second, as the sight of Takaki and Hasshi looking so happy made him depressed.

"You alright Chii?" Yabu asked, and Chinen nodded, forcing himself to smile so the older boy wouldn't worry about him.

"Look on the bright side Chii," Hikaru said, patting his head. "At least they're not using the same spoon."

Yabu plucked Hikaru's forehead.

3. Taking The 'Amuse' Out Of Amusement

Chinen was pretty much in a sour mood when JUMP went to the amusement park with Hasshi the next day. Usually when the ten went to the park, Takaki was his buddy for rides and when they broke up into groups.

But today was different. Today Hasshi was with them.

"Are you gonna be okay this time, Chii?" Takaki asked as Hasshi locked an arm with him.

Chinen nodded, suppressing the urge to gnaw off Hasshi's arm.

"I'll be fine," he said.

"Who will you be with?" Takaki asked concerned.

"I'll be with -" Chinen started, realizing he didn't know that yet.

"He'll be with us," Hikaru cut in, hugging Chinen from behind. "Me and Yabu."

Takaki smiled in relief and nodded.

"I'll see you later Chii, okay?" he said, ruffling his hair, and Chinen nodded smiling.

Hasshi dragged Takaki off to a roller coaster and Chinen turned to face Hikaru.

"Thanks, Hika-chan," he said. "But I don't wanna be a bother to you and Yabu-kun again."

"You're never a bother Chii," Yabu told him. "You might be a handful at points, but never a bother."

Chinen smiled.

"Thanks guys," he said.

"You're welcome," Hikaru said. "Now come on, I want a picture of all of us in the purikura machine!"

Yabu and Chinen exchanged looks as Hikaru dragged them off to the machine.

"What's wrong Yuya?" Hasshi asked his friend as Takaki looked troubled.

"Nothing," he said. "I'm just worried about Chii that's all."

"But he's with Yabu and Hikaru," Hasshi replied.

"That's why I'm worried," Takaki replied. "Hika's a great guy but sometimes he can spoil Chii rotten. I hope he doesn't give him a whole bunch of junk food and then put him on a roller coaster."

Hasshi smiled at how worried Takaki looked.

"I'm sure he'll be just fine," he said.

Takaki nodded.

"You're right," he said.

"Now come on! The Tower of Terror line is getting longer!"

On the way to the line Takaki and Hasshi passed the tea cups. Takaki smiled as he recalled the last time JUMP came to the park, and he and Chinen got on the ride. He made a mental note to make that the first thing he and Chinen did the next time they came.

4. Limbo Loser

The group of eleven ended up going back to Takaki's house for the evening. After a vote everyone decided to play a game.

"Chicken Limbo!" Inoo exclaimed excitedly as Takaki pulled the game off of the shelf. "I haven't played that since fourth grade!"

"I'm first!" Daiki exclaimed.

"No meeee!" Hikaru said flailing.

"We're going by height," Takaki told him. "So you're up first, Chii."

Chinen nodded.

"I'm gonna win," he thought. "That'll impress Yuunyan for sure!"

And so the game began, and Chinen worked hard to stay it. The first one to be eliminated was Yabu, who was soon followed by Keito, Yuto, Yamada, Hikaru, Inoo, Daiki, Ryutaro, and Takaki.

This left only Chinen and Hasshi.

"I'm not gonna go easy on you Chii!" Hasshi exclaimed.

"I don't want you to!" Chinen replied, smiling back.

'This is it,' he thought. 'I'm gonna win!'

Takaki lowered the bar once more and Chinen studied it for a second before he went under. Then, very slowly he began to move, soon halfway under the bar. He smiled as he imagined being on the other side and watching as Hasshi lost. Then Takaki would hug Chinen and be proud of him -

Chinen was cut out of his thoughts when he realized he stood up a tad bit too early, consequently hitting himself on the bar. Takaki giggled.

"Sorry, but you're out Chii," he said.

Chii pouted and went to sit on Yamada's lap. Yamada smiled and hugged him.

"It's okay Chii," he said. "You did really well."

Chinen smiled softly.

"But it wasn't enough," he said. "Hasshi-kun's still gonna win."

And sure enough he did. Yuto hugged Chinen as Takaki pulled Hasshi into a hug.

"You guys I think I want to go home," Chinen said, softly.

"Are you sure?" Yamada asked and Chinen nodded.

"Call your mom," Yuto told him, handing the younger man his cell phone.

Chinen nodded and dialed his house.

"Hi mom. Can you come and get me?  . . . No, nothing's wrong, I'm just tired. Okay.  . . . bye."

He hung up the phone and handed it back to Yuto.

"She'll be here in fifteen minutes," he said. "I'm gonna wait for her outside."

"Do you want us to wait with you?" Yuto asked.

Chinen shook his head.

"I'll be fine," he said, hugging them both. "See you guys later."

As he left, there was a pair of brown eyes watching.

Chinen sat on the porch hugging his knees. He wasn't sure how much more TakaHasshi he could take. Leaving the house had helped ease the pain a little, but the mental pictures of Takaki and Hasshi continued to plague his brain.

A few seconds later he felt a pair of arms wrap around his shoulders.

"You thought you were gonna leave without telling me goodbye huh?"

Chinen felt his stomach churn and he turned to face Takaki.

"S-sorry Yuunyan," he said. "I just wasn't feeling well. I didn't want you to worry."

Takaki pressed his palm to Chinen's forehead. Chinen blushed slightly.

"You do feel a little warm," he said. "You should lie down when you get home, okay?"

"Okay," Chinen said, nodding.

A car pulled up to the house and honked its horn.

"That's my mom," Chinen told Takaki. "See you later."

"Bye Chii," Takaki said, kissing his forehead. "I hope you feel better."

Chinen blushed and nodded, leaving the porch and getting into the car. He waved as his mom drove off.

Takaki waved until the car turned the block, sighing as it did so.

"Hey Takaki-kun come on!" Hikaru called. "We're about to start round two!"

"I'm coming!" Takaki exclaimed, going back into house.

"Chii's gone home?" Yabu asked and Takaki nodded.

"You okay?" Hikaru asked. "You seem a bit down."

"I'm fine," Takaki replied, kicking off his shoes. "Now let's play!"

"How long are we gonna have to put up with Takaki's stupidity?" Yuto whispered to Yabu.

"Hopefully not much longer," Yabu replied back softly.

"If he doesn't get it by the end of the week I'm going to knock his block off," Hikaru muttered.
