There was no immediate answer, but the only light that was on was a lamp in the living room.

Nadine went to the kitchen, separated from the living room by only a half wall, and turned on the light there. It was a small thing, but it lit the apartment better and kept her feeling just a little safer about the shadows here and there. She no longer had to have every door open and every light on, but that didn't mean she liked it dark.

She headed into the bedroom. Harvey had probably gone out, she decided. Well, she'd change, maybe catch the news. She wouldn't wait up. No telling when he might get back.

There were noises coming from the bedroom -- the sounds of tossing and turning.

Nadine stopped in the bedroom doorway when she heard the sounds. She looked toward the bed.
