you weren't being weak at all. it's a really crap situation like, risk being "an over-reactor" (and allll the stuff that implies/dredges up) or risk "holy shit stuffed in the trunk of car" (my default!).
it sounds like you made pragmatic, considered decisions under really unpleasant circumstances. not weak at all.
