Who: Genkai and Shishiwakamaru
When: Tuesday, early morning
Where: School Dojo
Warnings: bad Kendo Violence
Genkai headed towards the dojo, stifling a yawn with the back of her hand before continuing to tie her hair up into a messy bun. She was slightly sluggish today, since she couldn’t find herself to sleep last night. She slid off her shoes, her footsteps giving a hollow sound underneath the wooden floorboards.
In the period of the morning, not as sun rises like tradition demands, but he found himself alone in the gymnasium with the wooden sword, polished and of an expensive brand. The noise of a shifting door and the outlined silhouette by the light of the day. It was a female of some sorts. He glanced over his shoulder discreetly to peer at who was entering.
“Good morning,” she greeted. She had never seen the man before, nor had she ever seen a regular student hold such a unique blade, but she carried on her way, feeling as though it wasn’t her place to intrude on the life of others. She headed towards the farther side of him, setting her possessions down before sitting down herself and beginning her warm up stretches.
"..So you also escort sunrise to begin the martial art practice? Or you're just here to watch ..." he trailed off, placing the wooden blade down while a hand shifted to untie the protective mask unraveling his features.
His questions were greeted with a blank stare. “To begin martial arts practice,” she finally answered. “Very few come in the morning to practice, it’s a waste of time to wait and watch them.” She stretched her left leg, her right leg folded inward as she reached for her left.
"So you think you're good, since watching is boring. I'm sure no one here takes kendo, and if there was one, it would be more than boring. Or maybe funny.." he replied folding his arms over his chest. "And what style you practice?"
“If you’re asking if I do Iaido as well as Kendo, I do.” She continued with her stretches, unperturbed by his questions.
He had never been allowed to use real swords but he nodded the same "That is quite interesting, but now you wield no sword.."
“I plan on using the Shinai’s provided at school instead of those I have in my dormitory,” She raised her eyebrow. Her feelings on this man were bordering annoying and weird. “I wasn’t planning to use a real sword today.”
"So that means you are here to practice another martial art, .." he trailed off casting his gaze downwards. "Kendo, ...Iaido. and.. which you will practice now?" --Dammit.. a girl can't know more that me >>.. -
“Kendo for the moment,” she glanced at his wooden sword. “And you?” she asked out of mild curiosity. What was he expecting to do? He looked slightly lost in her perspective.
"Yes, Kendo as well. I arrived yesterday.. and in my previous school, I held the leading. Captain of the team. and I'm interested in continuing with it" he added.
Genkai nodded in understanding, switching legs to continue stretching. She was slightly amused, finding it interesting for such a man to be captain of a kendo team. She watched him for a moment, finally saying, “I’m Kobayashi Genkai. Would you like to spar with me?”
"Kobayashi-san, pleased to meet you... I am Fujiwara Minamoto Shishiwakamaru." he replied spelling his incredibly long and notorious man. "Yes, spar sounds interesting, but you are a female... the rules would forbid a different gender fight"
Genkai gave a small smirk. “Well, Shishiwakamaru-san,” she said, “How should we fix this problem? We could forget the rules and have a free friendly fight, or you can think of me as a man. I have no problem with either.”
He raise an eyebrow at the petite maiden before him "Aha.. but I could never believe you a man..." he replied somewhat sneering. But his hands held the wooden blade by that detailed and crafted hilt. "I could make an exception for you.. though"
Genkai stood up, simply walking over to the rack which held school owned weaponry. She pulled out a less detailed and slightly worn wooden blade, returning to her spot before pulling on her own protective mask. “Alright then,” she said, bowing slightly.
His hand rose to tie the mask back and gripped the hilt once more, bowing in return he took some steps back. "Interesting... " he mused grinning inside the mask. Holding the blade before him he readied.
Genkai advanced forward, her own sword held firmly before her. She squatted, eyes locked on her opponent.
Squatting elegantly with the wooden blade, he swiftly lunged a diagonal slash, a moderate strength but fast enough.
Genkai swiftly defended herself, almost slightly thrown off by this sudden attack. However, she pushed him back, her sword touching his lightly as she stepped back a bit. She lunged at him after a second, bringing her sword straight down, stepping up with her right foot.
The blade shifted horizontally to parry her attack and counter by pushing her sword back to her as both clashed.
Quickly she stepped back, wasting no time to turn offensive and perhaps throw him off guard as she brought her sword to the right, putting more strength into it. Behind her protective mask, she almost grinned. She was having more fun then she would have thought.
The blow channeled more strength than before that threatened his grip around the blade. Inwardly astonished by that aggressive blow. So he countered this time using more strength, even drawing splinters.
She could hear the almost satisfying sound of splinters, unsure whose sword was breaking, although it didn’t matter much. Shishiwakamaru wasn’t backing down, and neither would she. She sidestepped his sword, blocking it by lightly running her own sword by the side. She brought her sword back, tilting it horizontally before emitting a low growl, thrusting at him, aiming for his shoulder.
This violent thrust, things would get troublesome if one of those swords was forcefully broken. But closed minded for an attack at the female warrior he aimed for the opposite shoulder.
Genkai felt the tip of Shishiwakamaru’s blade on her shoulder just as her own sword landed on his other shoulder. She took a deep breath, remaining where she was for a moment before withdrawing her sword from his shoulder, backing away. She took steady breaths, going back to her original spot before squatting once more, this time, placing her sword across her lap, then standing up and bowing.
It was somewhat frustration, a draw? Against a girl! Feh... but it was hidden behind his mask. He nodded slightly and squatted again resting the blade and placing it on the floor. "...Good"
Genkai tucked her legs underneath her so she sat traditionally, her sword in front of her as she pulled off her mask. She pulled the hair tie away, smirking slightly. “Thank you. Good job to you as well.”
"How long have you practiced this...?" he asked so as not to wonder for longer in that irking subject of defeat.
“Since I was six,” she replied, taking a deep breath. She frowned slightly; perhaps she should practice some more on her free time. “My father owns a dojo.”
"...Hn, quite good. " he replied standing up. "Are you new here?"
“I’ve been here for a week or so,” she said, standing as well. It was almost near breakfast time.
"Oh.. I arrived yesterday evening. Today has been my first day here. And my dear room mate .. does make me feel 'at home'" he replied rolling his eyes.
“Who’s your roommate?” she asked, curious, as she placed the school sword back where she got it, sliding the storage door shut.
"Some weirdo that goes by the name Orochimaru, he demands to be called -sama" explained as he removed the protective mask. "He thinks he is important" added with a grin.
Genkai shrugged, she wasn’t too familiar with Orochimaru-san to understand how he was. “What year are you?” she asked, heading towards the doorway.
"I am in the second year of the university" he replied idly as his gaze scanned the bad condition of the blade.
“How is it?” she asked, gesturing to his blade.
"Scratched..." he commented not so joyful. "But it is nothing that cannot be fixed...”
“I see…” She glanced at the rising sun. “I need to go before breakfast starts.” She folded her arms, giving him an impassive stare before adding, “We should do this again sometime.”
"I concur.." he retorted picking his blade and rising to his feet. "I will stay here sometime, ... need not much of a breakfast.."
She shrugged, slipping on her shoes. “Later,” she waved carelessly over her shoulder, heading back towards her dormitory.
"Yes, until then..." he replied turning back to face the wall and the empty dojo. "..Tied to a girl..."
