I'm curious as to why it exploded, since it wasn't an active rig, and as I understand, was waiting to be sold to another company.

I'm thankful that it wasn't my brother-in-law's rig. :/

I've heard that things like this happen all the time on oil rigs around the world. We, assuming this is the population of the United States, don't hear about it as it isn't in our back yard.
