Yer. It's the one message I give my friends & relatives kids as they grow up - it does get better, and when they say it's going on your permanent record? They lie.
I've said this before, regarding the "it gets better" meme: someone actually did say something along those lines to me, when I was a miserable, bullied child. My thoughts ran to, "Wait, you KNOW this stuff is going on, and you don't stop it from happening? You're telling me that I should wait it out, why, so you don't have to do anything to make things better NOW?!"
Things DO get better, but when you're that miserable, it doesn't always sound like a promise. It can sound like a cop-out.
It doesn't get worse, but it doesn't get significantly better either. Always going to be problems. We just gain the capacity to be able to deal with shit better. So instead of telling kids "It gets better" which by the way it magically won't unless you actively try to make your life better, we can just tell them "You'll get less stupid".
I think the problem with kids these days is they need a dose of "Harden the fuck up".
