You do not have to write a great deal for the application, just as long as it covers the main aspects needed - however, lengthy applications are appreciated when done properly as it will give better insight to how you portray your character.I've included a sample application below, but keep in mind that your application, as stated above, does not necessarily need to be this long.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER//
Character Name: Allen Walker

Special ability? (if any): His Innocence, "Crown Clown" (and unbeatable poker skills |D)
Personality: When Allen Walker was young, he was, to put it bluntly, a brat, but as time passed, he began to act the part of an innocent "gentleman". However, despite his proper attitude, he most certainly has a dark side that often startles those around him. Allen is quite capable of manipulation when it comes to certain tasks, most of which involve gambling with cards (games of poker, in particular), and has been known to clean out the majority of his victims' challengers' fortunes when he is in need of money for the massive amounts of food his body requires him to devour. However, in contrast to his darker side, it is easy for anyone to see that Allen cares deeply for his friends-so much so that he would willingly defend them against anything or anyone without a care that he may be injured, either emotionally or physically, in the process. Because of this deep sense of camaraderie, he often finds himself wandering both sides of the city with the small hope that he will one day stumble across on or more of his fellow Exorcists.
History/Background:
After the unfortunate death (and subsequent rebirth as an AKUMA) of his adoptive father, Mana, Allen became the apprentice of the Exorcist General, Cross Marian, and the two traveled the world together. Cross had an annoying ability to wrack up huge, monstrous debts, so Allen quickly learned to gamble in order to pay the fees for his master. Eventually, with help from Cross, Allen began to develop Innocence-later dubbed "Crown Clown"-in an attempt to fight for both the humans and the AKUMA in a war taking place across the globe.
Due to recent developments related to his job as an Exorcist (particularly suspicions that he was in league with his enemy), he has fled the headquarters of his workplace in an attempt to seek refuge within the city and has unwittingly found himself caught up in another war. Unable to decide with which side he should ally himself, Allen has taken a position of neutrality at the present time, and due to this, he has made it his personal goal to earn a living by swindling people of both Shinzou and Karada out of money via gambling, just to be fair.
Living quarters: Allen will be flitting from motel to hotel, depending on how much money he has at the time.
HOW THE CHARACTER IS PRESENTED//

Today was a pleasant day-no debts to pay off for shishou (1), no fights with AKUMA (2)or anyone else, a few quick wins at poker, and a lot of delicious food from one of the best restaurants around. Of course, as good as the meal was, I still miss Jeryy-san's cooking from back at the Order; his mitarashii dango (3) was the best! Nothing could ruin the taste, not an attack or a sudden mission-not even a joke about height. |D
But yes-today was good. Even the weather was great! Hopefully tomorrow will be the same. And who knows? Perhaps I will finally meet someone interesting in this city; I mean, everyone already seems so unique, but a friendly encounter would certainly be a change of pace!
Well, I suppose that is all I have to say for now. I'll write again tomorrow.

Allen's gray gaze held a glint of nigh insatiable longing as he studied the menu in front of him under the dim lights of the shady (but relatively inexpensive) restaurant. Biting his lip as he ventured a hand into his pocket in hopes of discovering a decent bit of change, the young man clenched his eyes shut as a loud grumbling issued from his stomach, alerting the restaurant's other patrons to his presence. Pressing his free hand against his midsection with a mental command for his body to quiet itself even as a light blush graced his pale cheeks, the boy made a disgruntled face as his questing hand closed around nothing more than a small clump of pocket lint.
Heaving a sigh of disappointment after concluding that he was, indeed, out of funds, the former Exorcist-although, he often wondered if anyone could simply cease to be an Exorcist since it seemed to be a lifelong profession-gave up his search and rested his hand on his thigh, absently drumming his fingers as he scanned the place and took note of the rather unfriendly atmosphere. A few burly, battle-torn men sat at a table not too far away from his current location, enjoying the "pleasures" of life-smoking, drinking, and gambling-and reminding him all too much of his master's habits during his younger days. Almost instantly, Allen came up with a ploy to earn a fair amount of money; surely a game or ten of poker would rake in the funds!
His chair shrieked in protest as it was forced away from the table, and Allen promptly ventured forth, intent on joining the gaming. A bright, innocent smile pulled at his lips as he slid into the only empty seat, and he easily ignored the wafts of smoke that assaulted his slim form. Clearing his throat, he spoke softly but clearly, "Deal me in."
He was hungry, so he would make this a quick, easy win. These men would never realize the utter danger he presented to their money until it was too late.
...And Allen took great pride in that.
