Kodaka is a character from Bokurano, a story that consists of an anime/manga/novel and follows two basic premises: (1) There are infinite versions of the universe you live in, and you are living infinite lives. (2) The main cast of characters, fifteen kids from the same middle school, are tricked into piloting a giant robot that will save their version of the universe from being swallowed up by the other various versions of the universe, but when their contract runs out, they will die.
Kodaka's backstory is as follows:
He was born in the Shimane prefecture ("Snow Country") of Japan. Thus, he is the only main character not to speak with a Tokyo regional accent. His mother one day committed suicide in front of him by shooting herself in the head. Kodaka was seven at the time. The event left him so traumatized that he became functionally and societally disabled, all the while struggling to find a meaning behind his mom's suicide. He eventually decided that she had been trying to teach him that life is meaningless, because all life ends in death.
Later, Kana Ushiro changes his mind, and when Kodaka realizes that it was his father who drove his mother to suicide (he had been locking her up in the house, cutting her off from her family and friends), Kodaka avenges his mother by killing his father and commits the crime in such a way that it cannot be traced back to him.
Although only eleven, he is a child genius and has already skipped two grades.
Despite his seeming lack of emotion, he is one very quirky kid.
