my thoughts are, simply, americans are generally too uptight, and i agree there is nothing to be ashamed about or hide about being naked... there's nothing unnatural about it. It's kind of like prohibition. Making something 'taboo' makes people want it more and have more problems with it. I think if we were comfortable with general nakedness, we wouldn't have so much fascination with porn and the sex industry, possibly. (I could be wrong.)
I totally agree with Sil. I mean look at the history of this country: founded by Puritists, God worked right into the oldest laws in it, and we know about the Bible's unhappiness with the nekkidness. It's no big deal for us, we go skyclad when the little one isn't around not for shame but to avoid confusion for her when she goes out into the world and has to make that decision on her own.
I'm an oddball in that I don't really care one way or another if someone's naked...I mean there's a moment of awkwardness, yes, but past that why's it matter?
Americans have simply been conditioned to be ashamed or darned near everything that's actually natural LOL We're a very artificial society, now...
naked is just naked. i've been an artists' model before, and felt completely comfortable. very simply, i was just an object to the artists, a collection of lines and shadows that they were attempting to capture. very little about it was erotic, except for the one girl who did an excellent job of rendering my fleshy bits. it looked very...real? grab-able? hard to explain except with hand motions ;)
i think that the fear and taboo of it is just a matter of ignorance. omgBEWBZ vs breasts vs fatty tissue and mammary glands. it's all just tits, but some people, because of the shame they feel about their own bodies, see it as a spectacle. they really need to get an anatomy book, look at some classical sculpture and get the fuck over themselves. i've always felt the problem is the scandalized viewer, not the nakey person.
also, i <3 the netherlands. they're just so damn sensible :D
Yea, Americans are way too uptight about nudity. The mainstream thought seems to be that nudity equal pornography, which I have problems with. I think it would be healthier to see all kinds of naked people instead of just idealized and made over models and porn stars.
