I totally agree about the sandy corpse thing though, it bugs the hell out of me too. I mean ugh, he only has the sand armor on when he's fighting, it's not like it's stuck to him All the Time. Time and again Kankuro will say how chakra draining it is to use, and when it was first shown Kankuro explained how it took Gaara's active will to make it happen, it's not automatic. So when he's knocked out, it should all just fall off, but no... instead they just portray it like it's flaking off, and he's completely hollow inside! Terrible.

I believe the reason why Gaara's sand stays on him is called sweat. Since we never see Gaara sweat at all and he lives in the desert, you are bound to sweat in a battle or anything for that matter. As for chipping off like clay well I suppose when sand dries it does chip away. It’s not going to come off in one big clump since certain body parts produce more perspiration than other parts do. Just a thought.
