When I moved from SC to VA I had a rough time of it. Mainly though I found that getting out and exploring the area and finding my own little niches in the area helped a great deal. Talking to those back home for me just made it worse. I still have moments of being homesick after over a year being up in VA. I tend to get out and head to a park or to a nifty shopping place nearby and that helps some while I sort it out. Mostly though I just now smile and remember the new friends and life I have.
I know it's hard but remember that it's temporary. Soon enough a year will have gone by and you hopefully will be back home with your friends. *hugs* Miss ya!
oh... it's not temporary. at least I wasn't planning it to be. I was planning to be down here for as long as this job will keep me. or if I find something better. Thanks for the kind words though! :)
I've never really felt tied down to any one area, so I haven't had too much homesickness moving from Omaha to Columbus. There are things I miss, like knowing the city backwards and forwards. I obviously miss friends and family as well. I think it helps to chat regularly. I speak with my parents fairly often and my brother almost daily either via phone or hanging out on Vent playing Warhammer. I probably miss my friend Aaron the most, since he was my golf and fishing buddy and former roomate.
I lived in Northern VA for almost all of my life, the last 30 years... I love traveling - but actually moving just hit me like a brick... and I'm having a tough time getting through some days down here. Hopefully it'll get better soon.

Unfortunately, the only fur we knew in NC moved away a couple of years ago.
Isolation is tough.
