Alright. I go to a Kickboxing School called "Champions". I go there around 2 times a week(3 times if I'm in the mood). Now, on fridays is a class that is usually mainly hard work. No problem with that. Now, I like to come early, because my friend David is there. The reason being that we chat and use these foam swords to train. We've been doing this for a bit of time now. Now, Last week, David had been telling me how we couldn't fight with swords since he was apparently almost in trouble for fighting against a friend of his. He was in trouble because his friend got poked in the eye with a large foam sword(Wow, wonder how much damage that did).
I go to our instructor and ask him if me and him could fight using the foam swords. He told us it was OK, which I thought was great. Fight with swords!
Today, I figure it is alright given last weeks experience. So, I organize it with my friend David and then we fight until class begins. When class starts, suddenly, he has something to announce. I of course have no clue what it's about. Until he turns to me and David and says we are NOT allowed to use those swords to fight. For the reasons:
A: You should be stretching(Which I think is stupid since we both get good exercise and knowledge on how to use the sword from our mistakes in the fight)
B: You shouldn't be horsing around(As reckless as the fighting may look, Me and David are trying to make ourselves better!)
C: You are not allowed(...You allowed us to do this last time didn't you?)
D: It's not safe(Yes, I'm going to the hospital from a stab wound from a foam covered sword)
So, at the end of class, I talk to him. I explain how we aren't horsing around and that we are actually using those swords to fight because let's face it, Bokkens(Wooden Swords) Hurt! The counter response is that we should be stretching. I reply with the fact that fighting gives us a good sweat(Jumping, and all that) and exercise. He repeats that we should be stretching instead and asks if my instructor for the normal days allows us to use them before class. I find that weird and tell him he let us use them last week. I believe he said "You can't be doing that every week."
My conclusion to this. Either... He just wants me to pay more(Given experiences with this instructor, I doubt it) to join a class so I can learn about using a sword(as well as other things I don't care about), He is a safety freak, or some stuck up instructor(I have my suspicions) higher up than him told him that it is not allowed.
That's about all I have to say. Rants make everything better.
