CHAPTER 4:
Satoshi smiled in appreciation as one of his loyal customers, Jun, appreciated his mural. Nobody openly commented about the new mural, even his loyal customers, except for Jun, who always ordered caramel macchiato. He would probably give him free add-ons next time.
Satoshi’s hands were quite shaky that day because he had inhaled copious amounts of caffeine as the machine went awry earlier.
And miraculously, on that same day, his soulmate replied.
“So a coffee date won’t be good, ne?”
He wanted to jump for joy but it was unlike him. Besides, his break time was going to end and he personally want to run his coffee shop. He went out and decided to add an evening painting session just for his soulmate.
He could not sleep. He just wanted to continue this weird conversation with his soulmate. He noted how nice the other person’s handwriting was.
But stupidly, Satoshi could not ask him the basic questions like name and stuff.
“Will you continue drawing for me?”
Satoshi could not help but smile. His soulmate actually appreciated his drawings for him. And because of this, it made him more inspired to draw every 12 PM and probably every evening for this special person.
His soulmate.

“Meet him! Meet him!” Masaki said excitedly when Satoshi shared the news.
“How about you? Have you met the other person?” he asked curiously. Masaki seemed to slow down after the question.
“Maa… I guess I’m a bit scared to meet the other person,” his friend replied. “I don’t know… what if that person thinks I’m ugly or something?”
“Well, you said your soulmate sucks in the drawing department,” Satoshi replied.
“That crosses you out,” Masaki giggled.
“Oh…” Satoshi just replied. They were quiet for a few minutes. “And… I do think Masaki-kun is handsome.”
Masaki just snorted. “I would have been lucky if you’re my soulmate, Oh-chan,” he replied. “But clearly, we’re not.” They both laughed.
“So… anyway, Oh-chan, just… ask your soulmate out! You don’t have anything to be ashamed about,” Masaki said in his encouraging tone. “Give your soulmate unlimited coffee or coupons or something.”
Satoshi stood up to go back to the counter. He had left Chika on his own for more than the allotted time. It was actually alright but the shop owner did not want to put all the burden on his assistant.
As he was about to go behind the counter, the door opened, making the chimes ring. “Welcome…!” he greeted as usual.
“Good morning,” Jun greeted. He was fanning himself. It was probably that hot outside.
The two looked at each other quite a bit. Satoshi was thinking if it was ideal for this guy to get his usual since it was hot.
“Uhh, Jun-san, it’s quite hot outside, ne?” Satoshi managed to stutter. It was not even normal for him to make these kinds of comments when a customer comes in.
“Yeah,” Jun replied. “I’ll have the usual…” he still said, to Satoshi’s disappointment.
The barista heaved a sigh as he entered the order in the POS. “Jun-san, how about macchiato over ice?” he suggested meekly.
The customer looked at him as if he was an alien, making Satoshi nervous. “Oh great,” he thought. “I might lose a loyal customer.”
To his surprise and relief, Jun smiled. “Great idea! It’s too hot outside. Sorry, I stupidly ordered something hot.”
“No, it’s not stupid,” Satoshi replied more cheerfully. “I don’t know if suggesting anything cold will please you but… uhh…”
Jun looked at him with an unreadable expression. “That’s it! One loyal customer is out of the door,” he thought sadly.
But Jun grinned as if the suggestion was from the heavens and said, “Yeah, that’s a great idea!”
Satoshi couldn’t help but smile in relief. “One moment, Jun-san.” He took the payment quietly and resumed to his task to make his customer’s cold drink. Jun took the drink gratefully and proceeded to his favorite spot (as the coffee shop owner observed). Behind Jun was the wall where Satoshi drew his doodles. He could not help but smile as he handed the customer his drink.
Satoshi wondered if his soulmate needs a cold drink as well.
