Looking at all sides of a question, and working rationally through to a conclusion. This necessitates the ability to set aside personal bias in the course of the critical thinking.

Interpreting the input according to proper definitions of race, sex ('scuse me, I guess it's called 'gender' now), culture, moral relativity, and revisionist history such that you inevitably come to the same conclusion as your liberal extremist college prefessor.

Ideally: Thinking in such a way as to remove emotional, political, and personal bias from the thought process to come to an ideal solution to a given problem.

Commonly: Come to the conclusions those above you expect you to come to according to their personal beliefs and viewpoints or risk termination of employment.

Educationally: "Thinking outside the box" such that your conclusions almost exactly match those of the instructor or risk a failing grade.

never really thought about it.

but in thinking about it, I'd say: focusing on something... purposing to get to the truth of the matter, regardless of sentimantalities or presuppositions, etc; one's own, or that of others.

basically processing free of any emotional baggage
(emotions being purely the product of one's present focus)

Yeah, the above definitions pretty much sum it up.
