“Who the hell are you supposed to be?”
Axel turned at the sound, scanning through the crowd to find the obnoxiously familiar voice. Was he imagining things? A flash of bright red crossed his vision, and suddenly he found himself face to face with…himself.
What the hell? “I think that should be my line,” he said. Am I hallucinating?
“I’m Alex. A-L-E-X. Got it memorized?”
Oh, you have got to be shitting me. “Look, I’m flattered,” Axel said, “but frankly I find Vexen’s clones rather annoying. I killed the last three. Go find Repliku and amuse yourself.”
“Who’s Vexen?”
Axel looked at the mirror image of him suspiciously. “Vexen. You know, yay high, creepy old scientist who lived in the basement of Castle Oblivion and created you?”
“Never heard of him. And frankly,” he said, imitating his own voice to the point that it was grating, “You’re pissing me off too.”
