I hadn't actually intended to attend the prom. I mean, after hopping between worlds, risking life and limb and sanity, a school fancy-dance isn't exactly high on my list of exciting events. I would be just as happy not attending school for the foreseeable future, actually, but my parents gave me the choice of summer school and finishing high school out on time, or being shipped off to military school somewhere in the antipodes. Yeah, if regular high school seems like a prison, itchy uniforms and getting up at dawn for pointless exercise and marching in lines really seems a hell of a lot worse, thanks. And my third choice--running off and never coming back to the islands, because let's face it, they couldn't stop me the first time, either--kind of leaves my soul screaming in agony ( ... )

Sora blinked up at me--unfortunately not as intimidated as I would have liked. You would have thought that I'd have given up on trying to intimidate Sora into submission years ago, since it's rather like trying to intimidate a stone wall into rubble. On the other hand, I never had intended to mention it, strictly speaking. So maybe dancing a slow dance with Sora, while amusing, was not the best of ideas.
