I've been neglecting LJ, haven't I? Sorry, I'll try to be better about that. Life's just a derivative of acceleration jerk sometimes.
The song in the chapter is "Cabaret". The best known version was sung by Liza Minnelli, of course, in the musical of the same name. While not what I envisioned while writing, it is totally worth a listen or five.
Of course, the version I had in mind was Louis Armstrong's cover, as he makes it sound much less depressing than the original version was. An extended (live) version can be found here.
