I'm back...

More or less...

Towards the end of June, I took a week off for a most unusual family reunion.  My Mom bankrolled a cruise for my family, my sisters, their families and significant others.  I spent a week away from my computer, and once on board, I locked my blackberry in the stateroom safe, which was a good experience.

The good:

Sounds nice! Never been on a cruise myself.

The shows on board were a bit edgy

I went to a variety show a year or so ago, and was pretty peeved, because 95% of the jokes/humour were based on vulgar jokes and the like. I'm of a conservative bent, but not a fanatic; I just think it's sad that some comedians can't seem to come up with jokes that aren't in the gutter.

If that's what you meant by 'edgy'?

Second-hand smoke - ugh. There's nothing like a pushy smoker who knows he can't be forbidden from smoking somewhere. Luckily they're now mostly extinct on the mainland.

Having to share your room with your 17-year old daughter sounds ... less than stellar. Sounds like a great holiday though, aside from the pressure to drink, shop or gamble and the second-hand smoke. I really don't handle second-hand smoke very well. If I ever go on a cruise, I shall remember to check out their smoking policies. So nice of your mum to do this - reminded me of the time when my mum and her siblings decided to spend all the inheritance from granddad on a family holiday. Way cool. Hope you 'unbug' soon!

Sounds like a great adventure. I'm booked on that same cruise line route for March of next year. Very much looking forward to it and the fact that there will not be a 17 year old sharing my cabin... grin.

Hi, John, glad you had a good time. I'm wondering why you even brought the blackberry in the first place. I suppose you could catch up on email while cooling your heals in the airport.

I'm quite surprised at the smoking comment. My folks have taken some cruises on Holland America, and I don't remember any mention of smoking. Something to be aware of if we ever do such.

I vote for Jeconais first, not that my vote counts. I gave up on TFtCD when Voldie stole the Potter's bodies. Too much violence and going too much down the "necro" path. Oh well, I hope Dorothy kicks out some more Addams work soon. ;-)

Happy Summer,
