I can't add to what many others have observed: the suffering is horrible, the government response was slow and infuriating, the poor again suffer the worst, and New Orleans will never be the same. We are responding to calls to support the victims of Katrina in several different ways, with money, goods, assistance in resettling, and prayer. But ( Read more... )

Thanks for sharing this story. I have felt sickened and distressed by the disaster of New Orleans. I'm appalled.

But your story brought a poignancy, too, because I remember a few towns from childhood that are marked with memory. To see them underwater would be so strange and unreal.

Thanks for your note. It's a weird feeling. I know that all the places of my childhood memories are not as they were, but it is weird to see one underwater. An ephemeral feeling, for sure, compared to the horror others are enduring.

yes, places we've lived are temporary, but the feelings are remain pretty strong, so it seems.
