OK, after having time to digest the end of chapter...uh, 508...I think -- or rather, hope -- that Hitomiko is just mistaken/this is some big misunderstanding, and the power in the bow is really Kagome's, not Kikyou's. Kagome's just counting herself out. INSECURITY/ANGST ISSUES AHOY ( Read more... )

Well Hitomiko didn't say anything about it being someone else's power, so hopefully it's just Kagome's issues. It bugs me. Mt. Asuza was about Kagome getting over her insecurity regarding the relationships between the three of them (InuKagKik). I guess it didn't even cross my mind at the time that her powers never came into the equation there in that catharsis, but it seems cheap of RT either way. Kagome's character has a lot of potential, but RT is just rehashing the same old song and dance with ALL of her cast.

But if it isn't Kagome's misconception- She didn't touch it. This arc fell into a plothole. RT's been known to have them, but it's usually not so soon after the event that they slip in as this one was.

Oh, I know, but her implication that the bow, itself, is the reason behind Kagome's powers, and then Kagome's own thoughts...well, that's why I'm like "WTF?"

Yeah...there's where that thing you said -- "a plothole the size of feudal Japan" (LOL!) -- comes into play.

Mm, it's only been a year since the bow arc, too. I know I'm forgetful, but sheesh.

Yeah which doesn't even make any sense, since of course she's had all that power since long before she got that bow. The bow has not even enhanced her abilities. Kagome just stepping out of that circle of blood like it's no big deal is reminiscent of the Tsubaki arc, which was of course all her.

And why would a bow infused with Kikyou's power form a connection to her heart?

Honestly, this just has to be backwards-pedaling on Kagome's part for thinking of Kikyou, first thing again, instead of her own powers.

Kikyou aside, it's a little strange to insist that the bow is where the powering is coming from, considering that, as you pointed out, Kagome has done these amazing feats, like breaking free from the blood ring, before she had it.

OK, happy thoughts time! Here's hoping that RT is going to pull a rabbit out of her hat, and by the end of the arc, everything will make sense again, all of this "bow/Kikyou/who's the stronger miko" mess will be resolved, Kagome's full power will finally come to fruition, and we'll feel a little bad about having ever doubted RT. XD
