OK, after having time to digest the end of chapter...uh, 508...I think -- or rather, hope -- that Hitomiko is just mistaken/this is some big misunderstanding, and the power in the bow is really Kagome's, not Kikyou's. Kagome's just counting herself out. INSECURITY/ANGST ISSUES AHOY

But if it isn't Kagome's misconception- She didn't touch it. This arc fell into a plothole. RT's been known to have them, but it's usually not so soon after the event that they slip in as this one was.

Yeah...there's where that thing you said -- "a plothole the size of feudal Japan" (LOL!) -- comes into play.
Mm, it's only been a year since the bow arc, too. I know I'm forgetful, but sheesh.

Kikyou aside, it's a little strange to insist that the bow is where the powering is coming from, considering that, as you pointed out, Kagome has done these amazing feats, like breaking free from the blood ring, before she had it.
OK, happy thoughts time! Here's hoping that RT is going to pull a rabbit out of her hat, and by the end of the arc, everything will make sense again, all of this "bow/Kikyou/who's the stronger miko" mess will be resolved, Kagome's full power will finally come to fruition, and we'll feel a little bad about having ever doubted RT. XD
