Awesome! I am definitely going to print out this recipe. ^_^ We're having a 50th Anniversary party for my parents next weekend. I love your cookie table tradition!

the quantities in this recipe are pretty much eyeballed and guessed at -- stuff should be the color of dark chocolate and have lighter flecks, if it's not sticky enough add a few more raisins/dates -- it may be difficult to actually 'roll' them so you have to sort of 'shape' them into balls -- they get solid in the fridge ( ... )

I'm thinking it's probably a good that Australia doesn't have this tradition, or I'd never eat any of the 'actual' food. Or I'd hover and forget that there were people around. >.>

I need to go and eat some chocolate now :p

every shower/wedding/picnic has a cookie section if not table-- and i'm not really one for cookies i do love chocolate. after the initial novelty wore off i think you would be able to have a conversation or two =p

Maybe. Probably, actually. Methinks I get bored rather quickly, sometimes. Still, it'd be interesting to see who could actually cook. It's sometimes shocking to see among your friends-of-friends who has that elusive ability :p

Those sound wicked good...and I have all those ingredients in my cupboard and my freezer at this very moment...even hazelnuts.

::contemplates the wisdom of making sweets the weekend before I head out on a long trip::

i especially like the ones rolled in ground coffee -- my daughter had some hazelnut-chocolate coffee to roll them in and they're yummy -- very rich.

it's good to use up your nuts and everything perishable before a long trip so they don't turn rancid, besides you can freeze the majority and take some with you. no need for 'drinking' on your flight -- the rum balls are a little potent (and get even more so in time).
