I used to feel this way when I was young. Then, I read a book called something like "A People's History of America"--a history book about how really bad things were in the past.

It showed me that life had always seemed that way...that things always seemed to be running down and at their worse. And I realized that if they had survived those earlier times, we might well surrive these in much better shape than I expected.

Turned out, I was right then. Might even happen now, too.

We can always hope.
