Rating: PG(-13?), for Tayuya's mouth and mentions of blood.
They were the immortals. They were the fighters; the ones that simply did not die despite all efforts by even the greatest of enemies. They were the prodigies, the right-hand men, the elite, and the victorious. Nothing could stop them.
Only once had they questioned their mortality, Jiroubou carrying Kimimaro on his broad back; their beaten leader unconcious, blood spilling out from thin, pale lips and staining Jiroubou's shoulder with crimson. The others remained silent, unable to speak after the massive attack Kimimaro suffered in the middle of the massacre--not because they felt bad, no, but because, instead of the enemy, their leader had been defeated by his own body.
Jiroubou was the first to speak; and only a second later, he'd wished he hadn't.
"Who's next?" How long before we follow him?
The dull silence was more than enough answer for Jiroubou. Kidoumaru turned to look ahead of them, Sakon's thin fingers slowly curling into a pale fist as Tayuya took a sharp breath in, narrowing her eyes.
"You will be," she finally said, though it hardly seemed to make up for the sudden jolt of reality that shot through the four of them, "If you don't shut the fuck up."
Never again was the matter discussed. As long as they fought, they would live; and they would fight forever--against life, fate, and time itself.
Oh wow, I hate this so much. But, here's the first one. I may rewrite it later.
