One thing by way of criticism, before I get to the good bits. You used rip/ripped "much too much"-- to the point where I noticed it was getting redundant as a verb.

That aside, I really enjoyed this. It masquerades as a surface piece-- a quick tale of grim and gore. But it's got several finer points that really make for a good read-- introspective, however subtle.
