Owww! Advice needed.

Sometimes I can be so clumsy. I just burned my finger on the heating element in my toaster oven. I don't think I've ever blackened my skin before. I ran it under cold water for a few minutes and then put Neosporin and a bandaid on it.

Just wondering if there's anything else I should do. Do I have to get rid of or scrape off the black skin?

erm.. Black skin is 3rd degree burns, dear. Get your arse to the ER. If it is 3rd degree, there is nerve damage. and the tissue is dead. :(

I don't know if it warrants a trip to the ER, especially with the weather. It's a really little spot, about the size of a small pea. But it's really stinging like a biatch. I got it covered in neosporin right now. I guess I'll have to call my doctor in the morning.

here is what
Web MD
says:
Third-degree burns, also called full-thickness burns, injure all the layers of the skin as well as the fatty tissue beneath them. These are serious burns that can affect the skin's ability to grow back.

A third-degree burn can cause severe pain. However, if nerve endings are damaged, the burn may not hurt right away. Third-degree burns may look white, cherry red, or black, and they do not change color when you press on them (they do not blanch). Although blisters may develop, the burn is mostly dry, hard, and leathery-looking.

Common causes of third-degree burns are steam, hot oil, grease, chemicals, electrical currents, and hot liquids.

Infection is a major concern with third-degree burns. These burns always require care from a doctor. With small burns, new skin sometimes grows in from unburned areas. Large burns may require skin grafts and surgery.

Just make sure to ice the area when the pain gets bad. keep the bandage loose as well.
