"because if God cannot be deduced from reason, than everything about God is opinion and nothing is truth, because reason is nothing more than the formalized system of determining truth... and if the existence of God cannot be established using the only means of determining truth, than the entirety of all claims about to God are at best, opinion, at worst, wholly false."
The breakdown in communications comes because religious folks believe there is another source of truth: revelation. (And they completely fail to see the problem inherent with the idea that only their revelation counts, while they are dismissive of everyone else (other religions, the guy who believes in bigfoot, alien abductions and a living Elvis, etc...)
I've recently made friends with a muslim girl in my discrete math class. She's brilliant--and I wholly mean that. I'm consistently reminded of my own intellectual flaws. But yes, your statement about revelation is correct, I have to inwardly roll my eyes when I hear about the 'corrupted' texts such as Talmud and the NT. For obvious reasons I don't ask about why Mohammad didn't write his revelation down himself (he was illiterate) and why they waited 40-60 years before they wrote it down. If you want a group of people who truly believes in the infallibility of their holy book... you can't look much farther than the middle east (in general, not just muslims.)
