I find myself inclined to hang our pot rack in spite of the vast cabinet storage in the new kitchen. I think part of the issue is that the cabinetry is designed more for contractors than efficiency. I love mapping out spaces! Start with a graph paper map of the room and to-scale graph paper cutouts of your stuff.

This project is complicated by the fact that while I don't mind having many pots stowed, I hate not having skillets and strainers at my fingertips. Open plan kitchens have some disadvantages (most notable in our last place was the inevitable settling of bread flour onto most everything), but I'm convinced that an urge to stow everything behind closed doors suggests priorities outside of cooking.
