The one thing I miss about have cats, besides the fact of having a cat, is the buying/making toys for them. getting cute things, like this giant easter egg pod I saw in an add. Or saving the plastic thing you peel off a milk jug.
I miss that about rats too.. I was always making new hammocks for them out of the left over jeans I cut off from my.. well.. jeans. At least my chinchillas I constantly buy leaping ledges for, but they don't really like playing with things. Cyrus [RIP] was the one that loved bird toys, especially ones with bells on them. I have 4 chinchillas and all 4 like different snacks as a favorite.
My dog doesn't play with toys. He'll gnaw on a bone, thats about it. And he eats them way too fast [well, doesn't eat it all.. eats what he wants then the rest of the stripped bone is useless]. Or he wants to burry his bones and never digs them up. He rarely will eat any snack or cookie, so I can't even enjoy getting him the frosted dog cookies, or jerky, nothing. I'm sure he would love the dog ice cream, but I like the variety..
My cat didn't really play with anything either except dead animals or pens, but when I had Tama-chan he played with many things. He went inside chinese food paper bags, he played with 8-bit/16-bit VGs by poking at the screan, he dove into soda cartons, he'd play with any toy I gave him.
My pets are like kids to me. I feel the need to, when I'm out shopping, I see things and go "ohhh they'd be happy for this" "this is good to get them for a rainy day" "let me bring home a treat, since they've been so good[or i've been so bad leaving home too much]"
Radar is my baby. He's annoying and he whines, but I love to baby him. All he wants is pets and food. At least he has the company of the chins. The baby chin escaped for the day and Radar protected her. he kept laying by the cage with his back to it, I wasn't sure why, but they are they friends. Then i noticed Mamba was outside the cage. She's my houdini.. he got out of the last cage twice and I have no idea how. Now she got out of this one. Radar made sure she was protected. He's come along way from the dog I started out with. Even the 1st Chin I had [Artie], Radar went after him... but looking back.. Radar knew he did wrong. he jut wanted to play. he only bit him once and let him go once he realized how fragile... Artie was about to crawl to the other side of the room half paralyzed.. so obviously Radar had time to "attack" Artie, but he knew not too. Now he does great with the chinchillas, like he was with my rats and eventually the guinies.
I got off topic. Yeah.. I miss having cats. Having one now isn't an option, and having one before wasn't an option because of Radar.. I don't think I could risk getting a cat with Radar, but maybe when he's even calmer and if I had the time to stay home more to bring him and the kitten together.. it would take a long time and I would have to kennel the kitten when I'm gone, until I knew they were fine together... it's too much work and too much of a risk. Maybe when Radar's really old.. but for now, I'm giving all my attention to the Raddish pup.
