Comments: Finally got some writing done! Decided to update this before anyone forgets about this story, as I've abandoned it for too long. I'll be working on the other fic I've left hanging and request fics soon. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the update. And please do read the author's notes (at the end of the entry, under the cut).

I really like you, Kai.

The words echoed in my head as I constantly tried to remember who was talking to me last night. Absolutely no one came to mind; I couldn’t even remember if the voice was familiar. I didn’t bother asking Kanna, as she wouldn’t have seen who it was anyway since she was in a cubicle at the time. But after it plagued me the whole morning, I regretted not asking her. She could have recognized the guy’s voice, at least.

I wondered how Kanna was doing back at the dorm. Aoi and Uruha said that they were going to contact the authorities about a lost child, so hopefully they could find her mother soon. Then we would all find out which one of the residents was Kanna’s father. In the meantime, someone should be taking care of Kanna. Or at least I hoped those bastards would take care of the poor kid.

“Thinking about the kid?”

I snapped back into reality at the sound of Nao’s voice, and I found myself sitting across him, on the floor of the school rooftop. I hadn’t even noticed that I’ve already eaten two-thirds of my bento.

I really like you Kai. Another vague flashback came to me as I watched Nao stuff his face. His cheerfulness almost made me want to kick his ass, but then it occurred to me that Nao might have had an idea who it was.

“Hey,” I said to him. “Weren’t you supposed to tell me about a certain person holding my hand when I passed out Waka’s place.”

“Oh yeah,” he mumbled, rice and bits of meat in his mouth while he did. Then he swallowed. “I can’t tell you.”

What the hell? “What do you mean? Weren’t you about to tell me last night?”

“Yeah,” Nao replied. “But he talked to me last night and asked me not tell you. He said he’d talk to you himself. Sorry.”

I wasn’t sure whether it was a good thing or not that Nao was great at keeping his promises, and that he was excellent at keeping secrets. But I did know that I wanted to strangle him. “Actually Nao,” I said. “I think he already did.”

I told him how Kanna woke up in the middle of the night, needing to use the toilet. I narrated how I dragged Kanna and my practically unconscious ass all the way to the bathroom. Then I told him about how someone walked in, sputtered things I didn’t understand, and then said that he liked me.

I rolled my eyes whenever he laughed at my drunken sleepiness. It didn’t take too long before he finally stopped snickering. “So what did you tell him?”

“Nothing. I fell asleep before I could react.”

“Hmm. Then he’ll talk to you again,” Nao said as he filled his mouth with more rice. “I don’t think he’s gonna leave you alone until he gets a definite answer. He’s that type of guy.”

I proceeded to eat the rest of my bento as well. “My answer will be no, obviously.”

Nao chuckled. “Tell him that, not me.”

That afternoon, we returned to Mizer to find chaos welcoming us home. Everyone we saw was scrubbing the floors and the walls. Even Tora who normally kept to himself in his room was busy mopping in the kitchen.

“What the hell happened here?” Nao asked Saga and Shou, who were on their knees, scouring a patch of wall in the dining area, attempting to get rid of some glue-like substance.

“Kanna happened,” Saga answered. “Help us out.”

Kanna did this? I felt my expression collapse as I saw the long stretch of brown goo that covered the walls. I wondered if she caused whatever the other guys were scrubbing in the hallways and in the lounge. “Where’s Kanna?” I asked as I watched Nao leave the dining room to get cleaning materials.

“Reita and Takeru’s room,” Shou replied. “She cried for a good three hours before Reita felt sorry for the rest of us and took her. Hopefully he didn’t do anything too scary.”

I turned around and headed for said room, trying not to trample over the wet, newly scrubbed surfaces on the floor on my way. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that the second floor still looked okay, with no traces of toddler trouble. Or that might have been because they were done cleaning it up already.

I stopped at the door of my destination and knocked. “It’s Kai. Is Kanna there?”

A click, soft squeaking of hinges, and a slightly annoyed Reita. “Keep it down, she’s finally asleep.”

Praying that Reita didn’t knock her unconscious, I walked into the room. I breathed as I saw Kanna sleeping soundly on the bottom bunk, hugging a stuffed bunny. A knitted one. I snickered, as I now understood exactly how Reita was able to calm Kanna down. And I knew well that stuffed animals didn’t make for quick knitting projects, so that meant Reita already had the bunny around handy, most likely even before Kanna arrived.

“Shut up,” Reita snapped. “The pattern was cute.”

Reita then gave me a detailed account of what happened while we freshmen were gone. While no one was looking, Kanna scrubbed the entire dining room and the dining room television with pancakes and maple syrup, and decided to get creative and threw fruit preserves on the walls. She didn’t have any clothes apart from what she was already wearing, so Uruha volunteered to launder them. “You should have seen Aoi’s expression while he was running after her bare ass,” Reita said. “It was hilarious.”

Then she managed to get her hands on Byou’s pastels and colored pencils, and she drew on the walls with them. And then she nearly gave Kanon and Yuuki a heart attack when they found her attempting to stick a fork into an electric socket. Seeing that it was way too dangerous to let her stay in a place with so many appliances, they decided to hand her over to Tora. Like any normal human being, she got scared of Tora (even though he didn’t really do anything), and she cried so hard that she vomited on him. Takeru managed to calm her down, and they played, but she had so much fun playing that she totally forgot to tell him that she needed to go and ended up peeing on him.

“He’s in the bathroom right now,” Reita said, ending the story. “He’s probably trying to peel his skin off.”

I pressed on my temples. My head ached just thinking of the havoc Kanna wreaked. “Good grief,” I said. “You can’t tell from her looks that she’s a fucking handful.”

“Yeah, but,” Reita paused. “I can’t help but feel sorry for her. I mean, even though my Dad left us when I was five, at the very least I got to meet him. But this kid never met her father.”

I watched Reita console Kanna as she whimpered in her sleep. I never did look at it that way, I thought. I guess the other guys thought the same thing Reita did, so they all did their best to take care of her, whether they knew what the hell they were doing or not. And after seeing them downstairs, all running around cleaning up the mess Kanna made, it occurred to me that I didn’t hear a single one of them complain.

Reita stood up and headed for the closet. He quickly took a towel and a bunch of clothes. “I'm gonna go take a shower. You look after her.” And I nodded as he headed for the door and left.

A few minutes later, the door opened again. My eyes automatically slid toward the door and found Takeru walking in with the usual grin he wore. “Oh hello, Kai.”

“Hey Takeru. Heard you got pissed on. Sorry.”

“What can I say, I’m too much fun.”

I chuckled at his response, then my attention turned back to Kanna. I continued watching her sleep. I watched her nuzzle the knitted bunny in her arms every once in a while. I still couldn’t believe how someone with a face this angelic could cause so much trouble.

Then Takeru sat beside me. “She’s adorable,” he said.

“Yeah, she is.”

A few seconds of silence. Then Takeru spoke again. “Hey, Kai. I’m sorry.”

I turned my head to look at him, and I gave him a confused look. “Huh? What for?”

He cracked a small smile. “For telling you that I like you.”

A/N: DUN DUN DUUUUNNN.

I know this is really, really weird, but I do have plans, and it won't be too weird for long. Please don't give up on me and this story. XD
