Title: Press Play (A Series of Drabbles)
Chapters: Part 1/x
Author: konicoffee
Genre: Drama, Romance, Fluff, Smut
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters in this story.
Warnings: Language, sex, death (in one of them)
Rating: PG-13 to NC-17
Pairings/Characters: Reita/Uruha
Synopsis: My response to a meme. I just realized that I've never written Reita/Uruha before, which is strange, considering how much I like the pairing. Oh, if you write fics and you haven't done this meme, try it out. It's hella stressful and difficult fun.

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

So. Here's what I came up with.

1. FROU FROU - HEAR ME OUT
The shadows painted themselves on the walls of Uruha’s bedroom. He sat by the telephone, feeling short of broken, as he watched the darkness slowly devour him. It consumed him as he clutched on the handset and waited for Reita to pick up. He waited. Waited.

He closed his eyes at the sound of Reita’s pre-recorded voice, warmly greeting him, torturing him. The man just had the gall to oh-so-politely ask to leave a message. As if he needed another one, after the twenty or thirty or so Uruha already left.

He was sure Reita felt the same way. He should have.

It will be the last message for today, he thought. He decided to try again the next morning.

“I’m not over you yet.”

2. JANE SIBERRY - IT CAN’T RAIN ALL THE TIME
The vague sound of rain pierced through the air, right about the same time as Uruha’s sobbing. Reita fucking hated that sound, almost as much as he hated Aoi right now for fucking breaking his best friend’s heart.

“You know it’s not your fault, Uruha.”

He could tell that Uruha tried to laugh. “I always knew it would be a mistake, hooking up with a band mate,” he replied, his voice shaky. “And genuinely trying to win his heart.”

Reita felt his heart slam hard against his chest. “What’s wrong with dating your band mate?”

The guitarist didn’t answer. And Reita said nothing else. As they continued walking under the downpour, Reita wished with all his heart that the rain would stop. He prayed for the torrent in his chest to cease.

3. IMOGEN HEAP - COME HERE BOY
“Mmh…harder, baby.”

“Fuck,” Reita groaned above the writhing mess underneath him. He still couldn’t believe any of this was happening. With every thrust of his hips, every time he slid in and out of Uruha, the moment seemed more and more like a dream. He gasped at the tight heat wrapping his very being.

Reita was more than glad to fulfill Uruha’s wish. As Uruha’s legs coiled around his waist, he plunged into him harder, moving in and out of him faster, angling every movement to touch Uruha right there. They both gasped against each other’s skin, basking in each other’s rapture.

And with that Reita knew this was going to haunt his dreams.

That’s exactly what he wanted to happen.

4. JANNE DA ARC - HEAVY DAMAGE
Uruha wrapped his arms around Reita and held him closer. He planted a kiss on Reita’s temple, and his lips began traveling, the path of kisses tracing down the other man’s cheeks, then to his lips, and lower, lower still, right on his collarbone.

He never quite got over how warm Reita always was. He smiled as he buried his face into the side of the man’s neck. He took a breath, inhaling that scent, the euphoria that made every fiber of his body tingle.

He still half-expected Reita to hug him back.

“It’s all your fault,” he whispered. “You shouldn’t have cheated on me.”

Uruha kissed Reita’s lips once more, wondering how long it could possibly take for the arsenic to rob the lifeless body of all its warmth.

5. NINE INCH NAILS - DEEP
The dull pain on Uruha’s back as he slammed against the wall was nothing compared to the sting in his chest. His heart ached as Reita pushed harder, harder, harder into him. Clearly, Reita was still angry. He was still mad about what they had turned into. About everything.

Reita lifted one of Uruha’s legs to his side and thrust his hips faster, inciting a loud moan from the guitarist. Uruha gasped, almost sobbed, at the familiar yet excruciating sensation moving furiously inside him. He held Reita close as their lips met, gunning each other down with hungry, desperate kisses. He felt Reita’s moan buzz on his skin as he nipped the bassist’s lips.

Uruha wasn’t sure when it all turned into this. He didn’t know when he stopped giving a shit about Reita being angry. He didn’t know when he became angry himself, maybe even more so than the man who used to be…was lover the term for it?

He clenched his fists as Reita gripped harder onto his wrists and moved deeper into him. In between hitching cries, he wished they could learn to just make love again.

6. D’ESPAIRSRAY - HEAVEN’S COLOR
“The sun is setting, Uruha,” Reita whispered, his fingers weaving with those of his best friend. “A sea of orange and violet gradient surrounds the city of clouds. It’s magnificent.”

Uruha kept his eyes closed, softly humming to himself. Reita’s description of the sky came washing over him, instantly healing him of any pain, save for the little ache in his chest - the warmth of Reita’s hand healed that one.

He opened his eyes and smiled at the endless darkness. There was no color, no brightness. Nothing. But he didn’t mind. Reita’s presence was all the light he needed.

7. DEPECHE MODE - PRECIOUS
I had grown used to waking up to my parents screaming at each other. What they were fighting about this time, I didn’t really care to find out. I’ve learned not to cover my ears and let them carry on. Unfazed by the sound of heavy objects crashing to the walls and the floors of our kitchen, I washed up and got changed. They ignored me as I exited the house.

My eyes widened at the figure standing right outside our doorstep.

“Kouyou.” A grin easily found its way to my face. This was just a normal day. It was a nice day, and I was looking forward to spending it in peace.

But he saw right through my soul. Giving me a sad smile, he opened his arms out and held me in a tight embrace. He gave me the solace I didn’t know I yearned for. And it was from there I learned how broken I really was.

8. GARBAGE - I THINK I’M PARANOID
“What if they find out?”

“What if who finds out what?”

“What if the fans…the company…everyone. What if they find out that we’re dating?”

Reita sighed at the weight of Uruha’s head on his shoulder. He wasn’t sure himself what would happen if people discovered that the two of them had a different relationship from that of best friends. Not necessarily more, not less, just different.

“Well, would you change?” The bassist asked the other man. He could feel Uruha’s uneasy breathing, and he could feel the other shifting uncomfortably.

But that was just for a moment. He smiled soon curled on his lips, the same warm smile that never failed to make the day just a little brighter. “Nope.”

Reita kissed Uruha’s temple, and he smirked. “Didn’t think so.”

9. THE KILLS - NO WOW
To you,

You have not an iota of concern for me, so I don’t understand at all why I even have to stay in this relationship. This is turning to be a chore. An obligation. A job. It’s totally pointless now. It’s been that way ever since your drinking problem got out of hand. Ever since you made it a habit to attempt to kill yourself if I ever showed any signs of frustration, any sign that I may walk out the door and never come back.

You have managed to make the small, small space we share a living hell. I want out. And please don’t bother attempting to poison me with guilt trips and threats of suicide attempts. I just might stop caring and let you do it.

Take care of yourself.

Me

10. VIENNA TENG - BETWEEN
Sleepiness couldn’t find its way to you as you continued watching him. You watched him breathe slowly, his eyes closed, most likely seeing nothing as he slept, body and mind too tired to dream.

You wondered when it all started, when both of you grew too tired to dream. It wasn’t too long ago when you officially became a couple. Both of you had so many dreams, so many plans for the future you thought you would live together.

Then all of a sudden both of you changed. You started living different lives. Even when you fucked each other, you felt an unfathomable distance from him. You felt his body with every cell of yours, but his heart was far, far, beyond your reach.

You weren’t sure when you started unintentionally pushing each other away, and you silently wished that there was a whole different person standing between you, instead of this cold, empty space.
