“I will do my best.”
I took a deep breath, gripped the handle of my suitcase, and walked towards the school’s entrance. For the next three years, this is where I will be spending most of the hours of my life. I was finally a high school student. I had delayed this moment for a whole month, but the beginning of my high school life finally arrived.
I glanced at the announcement boards on the walls along a stretch of empty rooms. Club recruitment ads, study session schedules, club activity announcements…there wasn’t anything about welcoming freshmen. At least not anymore, I imagine. I got into a car accident not too long before school started, so I was stuck in the hospital for a whole month. I’ve recovered completely, but I missed a month’s worth of classes. I sighed at the thought of the work I had to do to catch up.
Velvety sunlight reflected on the floors of the hallway as I continued making my way to a certain room. It didn’t take long for me to reach my destination. Principal’s Office, the sign on the door read. I took another deep breath and knocked.
“Come in,” a voice uttered from behind the door.
I cleared my throat, twisted the door knob, and pushed the door open. My gaze immediately landed on the table at the opposite side of the room from the door. More particularly, at the man sitting behind it. I had to remind myself to breathe upon seeing the man. He looked so young, yet his gaze just oozed with an unnatural wisdom. His short honey blonde hair framed a pale, angular, but surprisingly dainty face. There was an air of regal elegance around him. Was this guy really the principal? “Good morning, sir,” I greeted softly, slowly approaching his desk.
“Welcome to Malice High School. I am the school principal. Camui Gackt.” Principal Gackt reached out for a handshake. “Congratulations on checking out of the hospital.”
“Y-Yutaka Uke. Please treat me well,” I responded, nervously shaking his hand.
“Sorry I’m late, sir.” I heard someone say behind me. I turned around to see a tall blonde standing by the door. If he wasn’t wearing a school uniform clearly meant for boys, and if I didn’t hear his voice before I saw him, I would have seriously mistaken him for a girl. He was beautiful. His long blonde hair gracefully rested on his shoulders. Long lashes outlined his brown eyes and his full lips naturally formed a pout you normally see on the lips of gorgeous women on magazine covers.
“No worries, you are just in time,” Principal Gackt replied to him. The principal then turned to me. “This is Uruha. He is the president of the dorm you will be staying in.”
“Pleased to meet you. I will be guiding you to your dorm now,” Uruha said, a smile forming on those pouty lips of his as he gently pushed me towards the door. “Please excuse us, sir,” he told the principal before he closed the door behind us.
“Yutaka, right?”
“Um…Kai, would be fine.”
“Cool. Okay then, Kai. First stop is the Student Council Office,” Uruha declared as he walked ahead of me, signaling me to follow him. I noticed a number of girls ogling at the man I was following. He was clearly a popular guy. And I wasn’t surprised in the slightest.
We arrived at the student council office. Uruha turned to me and placed one hand on my shoulder. “Wait here,” he said. As Uruha entered the room, that’s when I noticed that there was an unusually large crowd of girls behind me, whispering to each other, giggling softly, obviously delighted at the sight of the blonde man, and seemingly excited to see him come out of the room.
Excited they were, indeed, when Uruha came out of the Student Council Office with a brunette following him. The brunette looked nothing like Uruha, but he was no less beautiful. His raven-colored hair covered a fraction of his pale cheeks, adding more emphasis to his calm, mysterious, almost icy features. “This is Aoi,” Uruha said to me. “He’s the student council president. And your other tour guide for today.”
I instinctively bowed. “My name is Kai. Please treat me well,” I pronounced timidly.
The whispers from the crowd of girls were slightly louder now, the giggling now more apparent. “Isn’t Aoi-senpai such a dream?” I heard one of them say to another girl. Aoi was clearly popular too. And yet again, that didn’t surprise me.
“I’m pleased to meet you,” Aoi replied, gently bowing back. His cool, deep voice sent shivers down my spine and generated sighs from the crowd of female students in the hallway. Uruha chuckled quietly as he placed his hand on my shoulder once more.
“All right, Kai. Let’s go home.”
The trees lined on the walkway swayed with the wind. The pure azure sky wrapped gentle, warm sunlight around the building that stood before me. The building resembled an oversized cottage, bare wood adorning its exteriors. The house showed a lot of age, but it emanated an odd warmth, perhaps from all the memories that filled its corners. My memories will be decking the halls of this house soon, I thought. This was my new home.
“Welcome to Mizer House,” Aoi uttered behind me.
Uruha turned around and faced me. “Don’t let the name or the appearance fool you. Nothing about this place is gloomy at all,” he chuckled as he gently pushed me towards the door.
“Welcome home, Kai,” Uruha told me with a smile as he opened the door, revealing a small crowd of men, all cheering at my entrance. They held signs and banners, all with messages congratulating me for getting out of the hospital. Messages welcoming me on my arrival. “Say hello to your new family.”
“He’s finally here!”
“Welcome to Mizer, sick boy!”
I can already tell that I’ll love it here.
“Tadaima.”
A/N: Can't stay away from fanfic writing for too long, nope. Dorm room assignments will be revealed in the next chapter. Mmm.
EDIT: Just to clear any confusion - the dorm is all-male, but the school isn't. The female students will be necessary in the story later on.
