But Konishi-sama's new name is written 遼生 so while in hiragana his name looks like "boarding student" it actually isn't.
There may be a difference in intonation as well....

Yeah, but that's different kanji - 寮生 - similar, but not exactly the same.
I kind of like to think of the 生 kanji in his new name with its meaning of "Life". That would make 遼生 mean "Faraway Life" which I think is cool. ^-^
