My Laptop died DDDD:

Or if it hasn't died, yet, it's in its death throes. As it is, not even the assistant that claims it could start Windows 7 in the safe mode is working. And to my horror I found out, that the dumb idiot who sold it to me never included a recovery dvd in the Package... DDD: (Of course I was also too dumb to even know that I'd need one and so didn't ( Read more... )

Oh no! Well, I hope you're able to get it working again. I've had nightmares with my computer of late. But back when my last one was suffering hard drive failures, if I kept pushing it, it would eventually push through and load about one time out of 20 or so. It'd often glitch out and die, but I had time to rescue a few files.

I'm struggling with my secret santa thing a tiny bit too...because simple idea sorta steamrolled into a fic thats just dominating all my time and is getting progressively huger. XD I'll get done somehow.

Best of luck on your computer though!!! Ah, one thing to check is to try and get into the BIOS when you first start it (i think its F2? maybe F10. Don't recall. before it loads windows). Check to see if its recognizing your hard drive at all or if it says 'none'. If its saying none or doesnt have a name for your HD, then your HD is fried and your lappy is sadly toast.

Thank you~! I tried getting into the BIOS and it still does have a name for the hard drive, so I guess it was spared the toasting. I'll just see whether it's going to work, and if it isn't, I'm going to save money and get a new one in one or two months. :p

Good luck with your secret santa! I'm crossing my fingers that we're all getting done in time, minor catastrophes like sneaky, self-developing plots and deleted scenes included! :D

On the up side, as long as the HD itself hasn't fried, you should be able to get back any data on it. Does Germany have Best Buys? Their so called "geek squad" is not very good most of the time but even they should be able to handle simple data recovery.

Hm, I looked them up and don't think they exist, over here... I know that data recovery can be rather expensive, though, and I'm not sure I'll actually need anything I had saved on that pc. (I'll keep pondering that point, anyway, because if I had anything more important than fanfic saved, it'd be stupid to not try and get it back.)

Thank you so much! :*
