Sasuga Books, an online (formerly +store in Boston) retailer specializing in Japanese comics, magazines, and other books, has closed. Not just left the convention circuit, closed. I ordered a fair amount from them over the years :/ Their farewell message is here: http://www.

Cripes. I never got out to the new store and last I heard they had even cut those (minimal) hours. Can't say I'm surprised; Amazon was often cheaper and faster.

Seems like the Japanese shops are continuing to slowly drift out of Porter as well. Fortunately we did just have a small market open up down the street. I should probably blow some money there before we're two thousand miles away...

Wow, that really really makes me sad. I've bought a ton from them as well.

To be honest, once they closed their store front in Porter Square, the pretty much dropped off my radar. I don't know if it was originally a cost savings move to close their store front, but I loved going in there and browsing new manga to read. Add to that more and more English translations of manga being available, a need to purchase original died down quite a bit. The Japanese grocery store in Porter Square also lost its lease last year although the food court remains open.

Damn. I bought my JP Rurouni Kenshin manga from them back when I was in college. I haven't even thought about them in almost a decade.

Man.
