Together, Yet Utterly Alone. [ Pt. II ]

The morning sun filtered through the windows as Karin’s eyes slowly opened from her slumber. She stayed still for a moment, blinking and focusing her vision with the invasive light, and looked over to find her alarm clock and determine the time, thinking that it couldn’t possibly be after 8 AM because she was biologically programmed to wake up ( Read more... )

Feeling the weight leave her leg and the blood rush back in to cure the pins and needles feeling she had in her foot, Karin slowly opened her eyes and turned to look at Fathom, but from the angle of looking from the top down, she saw Zaku first. Her eyes widened, only slightly and briefly from fear, before Karin slowly turned and looked away, hoarsely speaking out and lacking emotion, "As soon as these clothes are done, I'll leave. You won't have to worry anymore." She paused for a minute, closing her eyes, before looking back to him, tilting her head to the side as if she lost the ability to keep it up, "For what it's worth, I'm sorry. For anything. For everything." She turned back to look at the dryer, "As soon as they're done ( ... )

Zaku felt terrible... I did this to her. Karin's statue-like appearance broke his heart, and he figured she wasn't going to be able to move even after the dryer was done with its job. He removed his hand from her shoulder and then sat next to her normally, and scooted in up against her, then leaned his head on her shoulder as gently as he could. He started to feel a wetness return to his eyes once again, but he didn't care. He would just rather sit with her a little while, tears or no tears...

The grip on her shoulder left and was replaced with his head. Karin stared, confused at why he hadn't told her to get out already. Feeling Zaku sit next to her sent shocks of warmth throughout the ice-cold feeling all over her body. Wait... what's going on? She dethawed, eyes blinking back to normal, and looked down to Zaku leaning against her. She was scared, but she reached her hand up slowly, giving him ample time to stop her if he wanted to, and her hand slowly touched his cheek, the warmth filling in more and more of her. The tears started ( ... )

Zaku broke a little further at the sound of his name, and he broke down hard, since she didn't seem upset with him at all. He turned his head in to her shoulder so he could cry into her. It was so hard holding in everything... he just wanted to let it all go... and he started to cry for more than the instances since the night before, but everything that had built up over the years as well... from him trying to hold it all in and create a tough persona for himself. "...Wh...what is it??" he sobbed as a response to her call of his name. He held on to her more tightly, arm falling a little so he could cry into her shoulder better ( ... )

Karin heard Zaku's bawls, her defense kicking in and wanting to do whatever she could for him to make him happy and safe, but it was counteracted with her own need to release all the pent up energy she had inside, "It's ok, really. You needed to yell at me. I was the one to blame after all. I'm the one who's sorry!" She stopped her sobbing whines and tried to calm down a little, having this new fear of doing anything to anger or let Zaku down again, and she leaned her head against his as they held each other. "Don't say such things about yourself, Zaku. You didn't do anything wrong, ok? And you didn't let me down... because I was too worried that I let you down ( ... )

Zaku lifted his head a little, unable to open his eyes, but he wanted to be at her level, even if he couldn't see her. She was afraid of losing me for good? Zaku shuddered a little, decided to not mention anything that he was thinking about doing while he was away from her. "I was afraid, too..." He was calming down a lot more now, though he had a lot of weights on him that he wanted to lift by telling her, but he had no idea where to start, or if now was even the appropriate time... "I'm sorry for lying to you ( ... )
