I found out today that Dazed and Confused has been released as part of the Criterion Collection.

In case some of you don't know, the Criterion Collection are remastered movies of the TOP art films of all time. They also retail for 40 dollars a dvd and are mostly watched by film students.

When I think of great films, and great film makers, the list does not read "Kurosawa, Goddard, Linklater".

"Chasing Amy" was released as a Criterion film. It is a good one, but a series of dick and fart jokes does sort of seem strange in the sea of French films from the 40's.

I can see it now, the professor starts his lecture by asking the significance of the line, "Thats what I like about highschool girls. I keep getting older they stay the same age. he he he"

Actually, Criterion isn't really an art film label inasmuch as a "culturally significant" label. If you truly want to get technical, the Beastie Boy's video anthology shouldn't really be a part of Criterion either. I agree some of their choices seem odd, but on the same token I'll take a few clunkers (DAZED AND CONFUSED among them) if it means keeping things like KWAIDAN and M and THE ORPHIC TRILOGY in print.
