Sometimes, I marvel at the stupidity of school systems.

So my first thought? Is that they can't be serious? Because apparently schools across the country have begun to ban rubber bracelets. Because they're a 'distraction.'

-______-

Really. Bracelets. Little rubber bracelets that don't do anything that hasn't been done a thousand times over by whatever the latest fad is, be it pogs, gigapets, Pokemon ( Read more... )

I'm sort of in-between. I can see why the teachers want to ban something that's becoming a problem. On the other hand, I do agree with you that you can't really stop that from happening unless you ban... every trend ever.

Well, like I said, I tend to get up in arms when it comes to this sort of thing. It's not the bracelets themselves that are doing any harm, so there's no need to ban them. If they're really that worried about the results of the fad... then concentrate on THAT. Deal with the kids who get out of hand, instead of punishing all the ones who did nothing wrong.

Besides. On the list of priorities in dealing with kids? Somehow I think little rubber bracelets are the LEAST of the problems they can focus on.

I'm not so much saying I agree with banning them as saying I can sympathize with thinking about it for a second. It's hard not to when it's the fifty billionth time you've said to put the *insert fad here* away.

*nodsnods* I can understand wanting to ban them... Just not the actual doing of it.

I saw that in the comments to the article, but just as many people said that that was some different kind of bracelet from several years ago. But all I really know about it is what is in the article. I'd never even heard of the things until I stumbled across it.

I think it's less about the bracelets and more about the fact that fights are breaking out in some schools over said bracelets. I can see a school deciding to ban them on for that reason.

And they are leaving it up to the individual school, so there's that.

Meh. Then they need to handle the fights and such. Removing the bracelets from school isn't going to stop the fights. Not really. Kids are kids; they'll just find something new to fight about. And like I said to Leah... removing them completely will just punish all of the kids, even the ones who didn't do anything wrong over the bracelets.

But you know me. The ever persistent champion of not banning stuff or forcing kids to wear/not to wear things. XD

Heee, the kid who wanted them to make clear glow-in-the-dark bands is pretty cute. ♥ I guess I don't feel as strongly about this issue because I grew up with school uniforms and am already surprised that kids are allowed necklaces/bracelets of the regular variety, but I agree that picking out one thing to ban will never end well. ♥

I thought that about the kid at the end too. Too adorable! XD As for the whole uniforms and limited jewelry... well, it's just been one thing that's always chafed really bad with me. It's a smaller part of my general viewpoint on less control by the governing body (be it the actual government, or in this case, the school) is better. *shrugs*
