i knew this was going to be a tough one when i had to choose between the swans and the supremes.

and yes, i just finished watching 'no direction home.' i thought it would cover a longer span than it did. like, it just sort of ended...he had a motorcycle crash and then he wrote and recorded lots more songs. gee thanks. but all in all, i liked it pretty well.

I loved all the performance and press conference footage.

That beatnik guy in the fur hat asking Bob about the meaning of the Highway 61 cover? That's some funny stuff.

Did your PBS bleep some of the cursing?

Yeah, the press conference footage was hilarious. Poor Bob. Why do you sing? What's your message? Protest music, blah blah blah. That dude asking about the Hghway 61 cover? I totally wanted to hear more of his theories. He was a nut job.

Joan Baez was so crushed out on Bob.

Yeah, they did bleep out the cursing. I didn't think PBS did that.

i thought the most funny/insipid bit was the guy telling him to, "suck your glasses!" "suck your glasses, just suck them!!!"

NIce to meet you, kookbox. ink_ling has said many nice things about you. You are at CALS, yes? MIght you know Carol Coffey who used to work over here at Memphis Public? She is a dear friend (but if you have gossip about her, feel free to share!). Cheers!

Many nice things? Wow.

Likewise, it's nice to meet you. I am indeed at CALS. I know Carol, but not well--we're not in the same department, and I've never worked very closely with her. From what little I know about C, though, and what little I know about ink, I'm a little surprised that they've got friends in common. Tell me more.

Carol and I used to work together a few years ago before she decided (quite smartly) to decamp from the ninth level of Library Hell and move to LR. Jason ink_ling and I have been co-workers for about 3-4 years now, and we're endlessly commisserating over the usual 'berry stuff (idiotic patrons, clueless admins., etc.) when not talking about queer stuff and academia-related topics (I'm working on my Ph.D. in English, so I use Jason as a sounding board/in-house reader-critic for my diss drafts).

How long have you been at CALS? And in which department?

I've been in Circulation at CALS for a couple years now. I'm a little concerned with maintaining my blogging anonymity (or at least keeping some kind of control over it) at the library, and I don't know how much you still talk with Carol, so I'll politely request you keep this information on the DL. Even though I never post about work, that hasn't always been the case, and I must admit I'm something of a privacy nut.

Isn't that Secret Frequency Crew album cover snazzy-looking, though?
