After a prolonged three years of attempting to quit debate, I finally found the will to do it. I had a terrible experience in Chicago. It resulted in me being depressed for a couple of days, something I never want to experience again. So, here it goes ( Read more... )

If we were the drinking sort, I'd say I would buy you a drink. This is why I jumped ship when I did. I went in for the acting, and found out that the other actors were totally mental except for a few, and the majority of the hardcore debaters were insane. The "one girl", if we're thinking of the same one, I think creates more people like her whenever she can. She tried to change/ control me and our friendship ended. But props to you for finding the will to bite the bullet and get out.

the # of comments is by no means a good standard to judge the quality of a post or the number of times it's read.

Yeah, I have a similar experience with Mock Trial. I enjoyed pissing people off, but then the satisfaction from bringing down self satisfied @55holes was outweighed by the boredom.

for me, mock trial is a little different. i really enjoy the actual mock trial part of it. I dont like a lot of the people in it (or havent in the past), and i dont like the fact that you practice for months, and your part is over in about 10 minutes. which is why i might be an attorney this year.

Seeing as how our school team's only 6 weeks old, I don't think we'll be venturing into sodomy (although at the 1st tournament, one of our freshman asked the greatest question ever, "What's sodomy?") or drugs anytime soon - heck, we haven't ventured beyond the "all freshman except for me" stage. Sorry to hear about Chicago being bad ( ... )

What I forgot to say...

-This is Matt.
-I hated mock trial because everyone got drunk on the weekends and didn't start working until 3 weeks before the tournament.
-Do what you want, but now I'm upset because I won't see you at IHSSA in Ankeny.
-Xanga is better...www.xanga.com/diversityisgood/
-Enjoy your calculus, and peace.

You have entered the debate world with a sense of innocence and naivete. Perhaps you won't change and will continue to enjoy the intellectual stimulation of debate - I know I did. However, the single 4-4 varsity fact would drive you insane if you could get no better because you didn't have a real coach and that you spend so much time only to be judged by poor judges who tend to not know what they are doing. I've reached a point where the costs now outweigh the benefits. Peace.
