Hahah i'm just curious, why do you see the acquistion of knowledge as competition? I think the only way the pursuit of knowledge can be meaningful is if it helps us become better people so we can make people we love happy.

eh you went to borrow Nietzsche ah? (:

Bean sprouts?? Haha, where did that come from!

Isn't it better to gain power through knowledge then through, say, guns? And isn't it good that the pursuit and acquisition of knowledge is channelled towards a productive purpose, rather than not being utilized at all. (Although you could say that acquisition of most sorts of knowledge does serve a purpose, either in academics or through some form of enlightenment..)

Hmm, would you help people if you didn't benefit from it? (I'm assuming that's what you mean by altruist - helping others for their sake, not yours.) Say, you give up your seat to a pregnant woman - you benefit from knowing you've in some way, benefitted the little life in her womb, and you've alleviated her discomfort in some way. And honestly, at least those charitable organizations get some help with all the focus on holistic education... as opposed to no one volunteering at all right?
