You're goddamned right. This kind of shit has been going along a long time. Such as when Ronald Reagan was governor of California, and pretty much said he'd rather kill dissenters than hear what they have to say after the Berkeley riots. He sent troops in with shotguns and mowed down innocent, unarmed bystanders and protestors and was damn proud of silencing the upset. Why should people who disagree with the government be protected by it, afterall? Freedom, my ass.

This is the USA. Look in a history book, and you'll find again and again that the US government has NEVER believed that non-citizens (and indeed even citizens) have inalienable rights. Not the slaves, not the native Americans, not protesters or dissenters, not people in other countries, not criminals, and DEFINITELY not terrorists. Rights are inconvenient at best.

This shit's ALWAYS happening, and its always pissing me off. You're definitely not alone in that.

What the US gov't believes and the wording of its laws are two different things... I've looked in many a history book (Lies My Teacher Told Me comes to mind) and it's quite true what you said about any marginalized people (ie anyone not a white anglo male- with money!)- they definitely don't get an equal level of respect from the elites in power. Sadly, all this proves is the whole dream of a "free" nation is long dead, if it was ever anything more than a sham designed to suck us into a new form of feudalism. Listen, all I want is a @#$%&%@ government that obeys its own damn laws!! That can't be too much to ask!! (wink)
