I just wanted to post a quick comment saying how much I enjoyed reading this. Gina/Mathias was a pairing that never crossed my mind, but I found I really liked it. I always liked Gunny Mathias and wished they had used her more in the show. I also really liked the back-story you gave her; both interesting and believable. Your Adama and Roslin were great too. Her line about not being a pleasant roommate had me laughing. I’m looking forward to where you go with this. Things should really get interesting when Caprica Six shows up, which she should soon, if you are sticking with cannon.
Hey thanks for reading. Did you get to this through the BSG Big Bang? If so The whole story is up on lj and the links should keep you here now. (If you tell me about typo please include note to fix the links after I correct it.)
And yes it's all complex for Gina, I'm glad the struggle with identity comes through as well as a sense of genuine feelings. I wanted the relationship to grow out of Gina coming to terms with herself. I wanted a sense of the right things done for the wrong reasons which mutate into the right reasons much to the shock of all involved. Thanks for the feed back.
This was a fantastic read. (I'm not sure how I managed not to review yet? It's inexcusable, I have no excuses.) Erin is so very well-rounded and real. Amazing exploration of Gina's perspective, how she's both culpable for something so very awful, and then becomes the symbol and recipient of all that human rage. She's always, believably, a trauma survivor (and oh, how wonderful to see her be a survivor, rather than ending her own victimization in murder-suicide). I really appreciated how her relationship with Cain is handled, with the feelings they clearly had for each other never quite lost in how awful it all got. And I love your thoughts on the Cylon mythology and backstory.
Thirty lashes with a wet noodle for lateness...wait I think there's one still stuck to the cook pot....I'm glad you enjoyed this. Damn, I updated firefox and all kinds of weirdness is happening. Guess what I'm gonna be doing instead of writing.
Glad you enjoyed the backstories I worked out for the characters and the cylons. I tried to keep stuff within the realm of plausibility even as I shifted bits to keep Gina breathing and able to move past being a victim. I'm glad you like Erin. I really enjoyed creating a fleshed out version of her character. I'm hoping to do the same for more of the women as the story continues. There are some pretty big shifts from canon due to the absence of Sam and Helo that bring more women to the forefront and alter character arcs of those already there. It also means more backstories for the masses rather than the mains.
